Maj. Gen. Thomas S. Mullikin Commander, S.C. State Guard

MAJ. GEN. THOMAS S. MULLIKIN (SC) is commander of the S.C. State Guard (SCSG). Prior to assuming command, he served as deputy commander/chief of staff for SCSG. He assumed duties as deputy commander SCSG in April 2012. Prior to his service in the S.C. Military Department, MG Mullikin served in the Judge  Advocate General Corps, U.S. Army Reserve. His first duty assignment was with the 12th Legal Support Organization where he served as a trial counsel. He then served as  International Legal Officer for the 360th Civil Affairs Brigade (Airborne).

MG Mullikin also served as a special assistant to the Chief Prosecutor, Military  Commissions, U.S. Department of Defense.

MG Mullikin currently serves as the President of the State Guard Association of the United States.

 

MG Mullikin is an U.S. Army Master Fitness Trainer (graduate of the U.S. Army Physical Fitness School, Fort Benning, Georgia) and a self-defense instructor (black belt in Karate). He serves as a Special Deputy and Rescue Diver on the Richland County (S.C.) Sheriff ’s Department Underwater Recovery Unit. MG Mullikin is a Master Diver (PADI) and dive instructor (PSAI) with recorded dives in all of the Earth’s oceans including certification as a polar diver for his ice dives in the Arctic and Antarctic Oceans. He also has successful climbs and summits of the highest mountains in Europe (Mt. Elbrus), Africa (Mt. Kilimanjaro), Australia (Mt.

Kosciuszko) and South America (Mt. Aconcagua) as well as mountain ranges across North America and Antarctica to study fragile ecosystems.

His awards and decorations include among others: SGAUS Commendation Medal, U.S. Army Meritorious Service Medal, U.S. Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Army Reserve Components Overseas Ribbon (with numeral 2), Joint  Services Detachment Meritorious Service Medal (SC), State Guard Medal of Merit (SC) (two-time recipient), SGAUS Medal of Merit,  RAIDER – Rapid Assistance In Disaster & Emergency Relief – pin (SC), Military Emergency Management Specialist Badge, and military  parachutist badges from the Kingdom of Laos and the nations of Serbia, Croatia, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Germany.

MG Mullikin is a recipient of the South Carolina Order of the Palmetto (S.C.’s highest award). He also has been awarded the titles IRONMAN by Ironman Outdoors (Sandhills chapter) and HONORARY GREEN BERET by the Special Forces Association (S.C.  chapter).
